Ozel Turbas - How to Belly Dance for your SultanWhen Ozel Turkbas began her first American Tour in the 1960s it didn’t take her long to notice that many women were interested in learning how to belly dance. At the time bellydancing was still so new to American society. There were very few Middle Eastern records that Ozel was not able to recommend anything of quality to her admirers. Her solution was to record How to Make your Husband a SultanHow to Make your Husband a Sultan was selected by three American record clubs, and suddenly many American women were able to give a seductive performance by dancing to the sound of the music.

The belly dancing crazy that has hit the US came as no surprise to Ozel. While other dancers open studios or clubs, she was already hard at work at making Middle Eastern music even more assessable to the public. Ozel assembled the best musicians from Iran, Syria, Greece and Turkey, added an American drummer and bass player and brought them together in the RCA Studio for the intensive sessions. This record is the result that would help belly dancing music achieve a broad audience in the United States. If they could make RCA studio engineers get up and dance it will do at least as much for any woman who wants to master the art of authentic belly dancing.
