Having conquered audiences throughout her native home country of Turkey, where she was among the country’s most adored movie stars, Ozel Turkas decided it was time to tour America. Upon arriving to the United States, Ozel found herself loudly applauded by many women who came to see her perform. That tour was a thrilling personal triumph for Ozel but the modest performer saw it more importantly as a victory for Middle Eastern dancing, an art form known as belly dancing.
